HunchKey
vs TypeSeer

TypeSeer and HunchKey both work on Mac and Windows. TypeSeer runs a downloaded language model on your computer and shows grey text as you type. HunchKey runs in the cloud and only steps in when you ask, reading your screen, recent steps and the web when that helps, with up to three options and a style for each kind of writing.

The short answer

Choose HunchKey if

  • You’d rather ask for help than have text appear while you think.
  • You want a few options to choose from, not just one.
  • You want suggestions that know what’s on your screen and what you just did, and can look up today’s facts.
  • You want a different tone for work, email and personal messages, set per app and website.
  • You don’t want a multi-gigabyte model using your computer’s memory.

Choose TypeSeer if

  • You want the AI to run entirely on your computer and keep working offline.
  • You’d like to pay once instead of a subscription.
  • You want grey-text suggestions continuously as you type.

Where HunchKey is different

01

It knows more of the situation.

TypeSeer reads the text field you’re typing in, plus what it has learned from your past writing. HunchKey reads that field too and, if you turn them on, your screen, the apps and files you just used and what you copied, and it searches the web when a sentence needs today’s facts.

02

It doesn’t interrupt.

Suggestions that appear every time you pause can pull you out of a thought, and you end up reading text you never asked for. HunchKey stays quiet until you press the shortcut, so it only speaks when you want help, with up to three ways to finish.

03

It sounds like you, everywhere.

Set a tone and paste a few things you’ve written for work, email and personal messages, choose which apps and sites use each, and keep your names spelled right.

Questions

Do HunchKey and TypeSeer both work on Windows?

Yes. Both support Windows and macOS. TypeSeer needs an Apple Silicon Mac; HunchKey works on macOS 12 or later.

What’s the trade-off between on-device and cloud?

On-device keeps working offline and never sends text anywhere, but needs a large model on your computer and can’t see beyond the text field. HunchKey sends text only when you press the shortcut, never saves the text around your cursor or your screen, and in return can use your screen, recent steps and the web.

Can I change the shortcut in HunchKey?

Yes. Ctrl + Shift + H is the default; pick another one in Settings.

Try HunchKey in the apps you already use.

Windows and macOS. One shortcut to ask, Tab to keep it.
